Quarked! Adventures in the Subatomic Universe
Quarked is the brainchild of University of Kansas Physics Professor Alice Bean and was developed by a team at KU with Three Chicks principle Deb Haller as Executive Producer and Creative Development consultant.
Quarked is a multimedia project for kids ages 7-12 and all about science and the amazing world of the subatomic universe. Quarked features a gang of "real" (animated) junior high school kids who find themselves transported to the subatomic world and turned into quarks, the smallest thing known to exist. The adventures of Ushi, Danny, Harold, Derek and their friends, human or otherwise, help kids learn the subatomic roots of things we take for granted like electricity, heat, gravity and more!
The project consists of an interactive web site (www.quarked.org), three 3D animated short segments in preparation for a television series, "live" facilitated science shows for schools and museums, and an educational outreach program with downloadable lesson plans, games and activities for kids, parents and teachers.
Quarked funding has been provided by the University of Kansas, an NSF EPSCoR grant and the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation.
