Silent Angels: The Rett Syndrome Story

Silent Angels: The Rett Syndrome Story is a moving documentary narrated by Julia Roberts which tells the story of courageous families and determined genetic researchers as they strive to find answers to a debilitating neurological condition called Rett Syndrome. This disorder randomly afflicts seemingly normal little girls between the ages of 6 and 18 months by stopping and sometimes even reversing their natural development. Rett Syndrome is estimated to affect more than 200,000 girls and women worldwide–many of whom may be misdiagnosed as having cerebral palsy or infantile autism.

Silent Angels chronicles this mysterious condition and introduces viewers to scientists, researchers, and the tightly knit community of parents all working in concert to unlock the cause of this relatively unknown disease. Their combined efforts were finally rewarded when midway through the filming of this documentary, the gene that causes Rett Syndrome was discovered. The film explores what this discovery means for children with Rett Syndrome and the scientific community at large.

Three Chicks Media partners Deb Haller and Karin Dolsak served as Producer and Executive Producer for the project through Merwin Creative Productions.

Silent Angels made its world premiere on The Discovery Health Channel in 2000.
